MICROCABIN is a concept for a micro-architecture cabin for eco-tourism in Liguria, conceived starting from 2018 for a client who wanted to build a system of micro-receptivity widespread hotel in the Ligurian hinterland.
The need is to satisfy a different tourist request, deeply linked to the territory and its peculiarities, mainly addressing outdoor sports tourism, a phenomenon that in recent years has enjoyed a period of particular development in Liguria; a case study is the town of Finale Ligure, now globally recognized as the “outdoor capital”. In this way the tourists are invited to enjoy the variety of the Ligurian landscape by doing sporting activities (primarily climbing or mountain biking) or simply by living in closer contact with nature.
Starting from these assumptions, the project follows the concept of sustainability declined in multiple facets: ecological sustainability, as the modules will be made with natural materials (wood in particular) and have been designed to be fully reversible – adapting to the landscape, they can be placed on the ground and existing terraces, and installed without the need for invasive buildings works - and at the end of their function they can be simply disassembled, moved and reassembled elsewhere with almost zero impact on the environment; economic sustainability, achievable through the differentiation of the tourist offer in order to generate economic inducements for the entire community; socio-cultural sustainability as the micro-architectures are designed for the "backpacker tourist”, usually interested in the entire local acing the entire local culture (which is not only “outdoor sports” but also architecture, archeology, food & wine).
Each microcabin is therefore an eco-sustainable modular housing unit and has been designed in three sizes (MODULE A is 16 sqm, B is 23 sqm and C is 34 sqm) to accomodate overnight and day a couple, four people or a family. All the modules are equipped with bathroom, spaces for storing luggage, sleeping accommodation and - for more than 2 people - also a kitchenette.
